British soldier dead after alleged terror attack in Woolwich

Posted on 07:44 by Unknown
A man reported to be a British soldier was brutally murdered in what was allegedly a terrorist attack in Woolwich, south east London .

The deceased was beheaded near a barrack by two reported Islamists who were later shot and wounded by the police.

The senior police officers believe the killing was likely to be a politically-motivated Islamist terrorist attack.

Dozens of weapons - including a number of knives - and pools of blood could be seen on the ground, where a man wearing a Help for Heroes T-shirt is said to have been attacked by two men.

Witnesses say the pair appeared to deliberately drive their car at the victim, before getting out with various bladed weapons and launching their attack.

The pair was chanting "Allahu akbar" - and asking passers-by to take photographs of them.

Brandishing a cleaver and a knife, and with the body of the victim lying yards away, the killers said:
We swear by almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you. The only reason we have done this is because Muslims are dying every day. This British soldier is an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.

We must fight them. I apologise that women had to witness this today.
Armed officers arrived at the scene and opened fire on the two alleged attackers. The men were taken to separate hospitals with gunshot wounds.

The police don't know the circumstances surrounding the incident.Schools in the area have been placed on lockdown.

The attack in Woolwich remains to be a sickening deluded and unforgivable act of violence in UK.

Nigeria president declares state of emergency

Posted on 02:10 by Unknown
Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has declared a state of emergency in three states in an attempt to curb the increasingly violent attacks by Islamist militant groups "Boko Haram"

Jonathan  said The military will take "all necessary action" to "put an end to the impunity of insurgents and terrorists" in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe.

Mr Jonathan also ordered more troops to be sent to the north-eastern states.

The Islamist group, whose name means "Western education is forbidden" in the local Hausa language, is fighting to overthrow the government and create an Islamic state in the north.

This is not the first time that the president has declared a state of emergency. The question is whether more troops on the ground will make any difference.

Many analysts say the military has been losing the battle for hearts and minds and abuse allegations have helped boost Boko Haram.

Militants from Boko Haram have been blamed for most of the violence, which has left 2,000 people dead since 2010.

Nigeria - a multiethnic nation of more than 160 million people - is also affected by a spate of conflicts over land, religion and oil.

In the latest violence, 53 people were killed and 13 villages burnt in central Nigeria's Benue state on Tuesday.

And it is the first time that Mr Jonathan has admitted that parts of the country are no longer under central government control.

I pray to god help them find a way to deal with the growing violence.

Aurora shooting suspect James Holmes to plead not guilty by reason of insanity

Posted on 05:43 by Unknown
It's been almost ten months since James Holmes allegedly murdered 12 people in an Aurora, Colorado movie theater and injured another 70.

Months ago, the supremely disturbed suspect entered a "not guilty" plea — perhaps in hope of escaping the death penalty.

Holmes legal team were trapped in what he called a legal Catch-22: Because they didn't know whether the prosecution would seek the death penalty, now plans to change his plea to not guilty by reason of insanity!

And it's looks like the judge might let him do it!

Judge Carlos Samour recently told the court:
Allowing Mr. Holmes to enter a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity would be consistent with fairness and justice.
Holmes, 25, was a Ph.D. student in neuroscience at the University of Colorado before the shootings during a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises," the latest Batman movie. He faces 166 counts of murder, attempted murder and other charges. The trial is scheduled for February 2014.

Hopefully justice is served quickly, allowing the victims' families and loved ones to find closure and continue healing!

Tanzanian government approves uranium mining in Selous Game Reserve

Posted on 05:37 by Unknown
Tanzania’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals has granted a provisional licence to Mantra Tanzania to mine uranium in the Selous Game Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of “outstanding universal value.

Mantra is a subsidiary of Australia-based Mantra Resources, owned by Russian uranium company AtomRedMetZoloto (ARMZ).

Covering over 21,000 square miles, the Selous is one of the largest protected areas in the world and is one of Africa’s last great wildernesses.

The construction will take two years, and the site is said to contain at least 36,000 tonnes in known uranium deposits. Various reports suggest that the mine would extract 14,000 tonnes of the radioactive element annually.

Such a rate of production will catapult Tanzania ahead of Canada as the world’s second largest uranium producer.

Currently, Kazakhstan is the number one uranium producer in the world, having produced 19,451 tonnes in 2011 and commanding 36% of the world's total uranium production, followed by Canada, which produced 9,145 tonnes or 17% of the total production. "Tanzania is going to produce more than that.

The government issued the mining licence to Mantra after two years of due diligence.Projects like the uranium mining deal are vital to building the country's economy,I hope Tanzanians will have a positive attitude toward this project and get exactly what they wished for and not otherwise as I don't trust African Countries when comes to such deals.

Three women who disappeared separately more than 10 years ago have been found alive in a house in Cleveland, Ohio – just a few miles from where they went missing.

Amanda Berry, Gina Dejesus and Michele Knight were found in a disgusting basement on the 2200 block of Seymour Avenue near West 25th Street on Monday.

Berry disappeared one day before her 17th birthday in 2003 after she called her sister to say she was getting a ride home from her job at a Burger King.

About a year later, DeJesus, who was 14 at the time, disappeared on her way home from school.

Knight went missing in 2000 at the age of 20.

The victims 'gave birth to at least FIVE babies in the home.

Kidnap victim Amanda Berry, 26, climbed through a screen door while her alleged captor was out and fled to a neighbor's home to call 911.

A neighbor named Charles was the one that heard the woman trying to get out and he helped break her out and call the police, when she identified herself as Amanda Berry .He was able to go into the house and rescue Amanda, Gina DeJesus and another girl Michele Knight and four children.

They were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where they were treated for severe dehydration.

Castro, 52, 'captor' who owned house has been arrested along with his two brothers, Pedro, 54, and Oneil, 50. At the press conference, authorities said they believe they have the three men responsible, who will face charges.
Amanda Berry (center) was all smiles at the Cleveland Hospital alongside her emotional sister (left) and the daughter that she gave birth to during the 10 years she was held against her will.
