Omar Sykes, 22, and another student were walking areas of the 700 block of Fairmont Street NW before 5:30 at night they consulted with two people.
Police believe there was a criminal trial but before the dispute occurred one of those people pulled a trigger and killed Sykes. He died in vicinity hospital .
Another student was struck by the butt of a pistol and wounded the head though no serious injuries.We think it was very sudden and we are not sure if the students had stolen any property" said Captain Bob Alder DC police station in an interview with News4.
Full details about the suspects still have to be developed. I hope it will be not difficult for police to identify the criminals.Many have suffered from a fear of walking at night for this very overwhelming;," said one student was interviewed by Megan McGrath from News4.
Sykes loved the writing and the last time he wrote an article on the Internet called Black Our Pages on June 11. His biography shows that he studied Marketing and Public Relations.Vigil prayers for the deceased will be held Saturday night at his school.
Howard University has issued the following statement regarding the death of Thursday:
We have great sadness following the death of one of our students happened outside of school.Another student was injured in the incident and is undergoing treatment .... Police Howard University are partners in the city police to investigate this incident risk. Our condolences to the family, school and all those touched by this event in one way or another. Counseling services will be available 24 hours for all students who need help in this difficult time.
