The undisputed queen of East African Taarab and Unyago music, Fatuma binti Baraka aka Bi. Kidude,has died earlier today in Zanzibar mainland after a long illness.
Kidude who was famous both at home (Zanzibar) and internationally, has been widely used in social and commercial adverts, performed in annual festivals (mainly Sauti za Busara and Dhow countries film festivals) and has also been traveled abroad for performances.
In 2005 Bi Kidude received the prestigious WOMEX (World Music Expo) award for her outstanding contribution to music (in Arabic and Swahili) and culture in Zanzibar.
2011 nominated for Tanzania Music Awards - Best Collaboration & Best Traditional Song ('Ahmada' with Offside trick)
2012 President of United Republic of Tanzania awarded Bi Kidude 'sports and arts medal' of all time
